Rock Carving Techniques

PRE-FAB GFRC ROCKWORK

For pursuing absolute realism, Natureworks uses 'Glass Fibre Reinforced Cement' (GFRC) cas from moulds taken from natural rock. This produces a robust and resilient material and looks and feels real. The material is cast into moulds or can be hand carved to create a realistic natural rock face.

FREE-FORM POSITIVE CARVED ROCKWORK

Free-form cement rockwork is the method of hand carving wet concrete to replicate the look of natural rock. High quality freeform sculpture requires a combination of passion for the art of rock carving and sheer talent. At Natureworks we take pride in the knowledge that our rockwork looks and feels like the real thing.

FOAM & STRUCTURAL URETHANE

In certain situations spraying or casting rock in polyurethane foam has advantages. Usually this is the case when the rock feature will be viewed from a distance or will cover an area that is not able to be touched or accessed by the public. In the case of Luna Park's Magic Mountain, Natureworks artists sprayed, sculpted and coloured an entire cliff face which suited the cartoon environment.

PRE-FAB ROCK UNITS

For smaller scale jobs Natureworks has a huge range of pre-fabricated rock units. These lightweight rocks are woven into the planted bed or landscaping features. Our units come with a variety of functions including boulders, small waterfalls and pond surrounds which easily enhance any garden or habitat design project.

With our expertise, we can meet any design and create custom rockwork to suit your theming needs. We have the experience to both be flexible and to offer the most naturalistic rockwork possible under the given circumstances.
